2008 teacher’s murder: Court to pronounce quantum of sentence tomorrow | KNO

A local court here is likely to announce quantum of sentence against a person convicted for stabbing a girl, a private schoolteacher, to death in uptown Srinagar in 2008. Special public prosecutor Abdul Aziz Teli told news agency GNS that Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar Rashid Ali Dar heard arguments on the quantum of punishment on Tuesday. “The court has posted the case for announcing the sentence on Wednesday,” he said. The court has already convicted the accused Irfan Bhat for charges under section 302 (murder) and 341 RPC (wrongful restraint). As per prosecution, on 10 July 2008, a report was lodged at police station Humhama that a girl namely Sakina Khan, a private schoolteacher, was repeatedly stabbed by Bhat outside her home at Gulberg colony, Hyderpora. The people living in the vicinity took the girl and the accused to SMHS hospital. A case FIR no 344/2008 was lodged against Bhat under section 307,341,309 RPC. Later on, police after investigation filed charge-sheet against Bhat.
